Battery Fire Safety: A Sustainable Problem Approach?

LITHIUM BATTERRIES FIRE SAFETY

Our challenge

In order to meet the climate objectives, a real (r)evolution is taking place in the field of new energy sources and technological applications. The purpose of this sustainable project is to find an optimal extinguishing method for lithium batteries modules, which allow to minimalize their accidental fire propagation and risk for involved people and fire rescue services, from the fire and toxic smoke influence. The project is focused on different extinguishing methods which could be applied in case of a fire in the variety of applications from EV batteries (both in bikes, scooters, cars, buses, and trucks) to enlarge energy storage systems. The research will be focused on the fire extinguishing effectiveness and, in consequence, the limitation of the produced smoke toxicity. Possible questions we will try to find an answer to in the project include: • Which available extinguishing systems (like sprinklers, water mist, F500, FirePro, etc.) are the most effective in the battery module fire spread control? • How extinguishing can limit the battery fire smoke mass production and its toxicity? This project will involve collaboration with business partners (including battery suppliers, extinguishing systems providers, and decontamination service providers). Its results will be implemented in both the scientific and practical aspects.

Information

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the Batteries Fire Safety program, and we would like to invite you to participate in this exciting and informative initiative. This program is designed to help you gain valuable knowledge and skills about fire safety, and to empower you to take an active role in ensuring the safety of your community.

Fire safety is a critical issue that affects us all, and it is essential that we take proactive steps to prevent fires and be prepared to respond to them if they occur. By participating in the Batteries Fire Safety program, you will have the opportunity to learn about fire safety best practices, including prevention strategies, emergency preparedness, and evacuation procedures.

But that's not all! In addition to gaining valuable knowledge, the program will also provide you with an opportunity to develop your leadership skills, work collaboratively with your peers, and interact with the local community.

The program is designed to be engaging, and fun. We will be incorporating quizzes, games, simulations, and other exciting activities to make the learning experience enjoyable and memorable. Finally, all the research will be collected in a report, which you could present as your achievement.
