Environmental concerns are at the forefront of modern engineering challenges, and understanding the ecological impact of the objects we interact with on a daily basis is essential for creating a sustainable future. This micro-module invites you to explore how thoughtful design can harmonize ecology, economy, and industry. The module begins with an introduction to the foundational theory of life cycle analysis, a tool used to evaluate a product’s environmental footprint from creation to disposal. Building on this knowledge, you will collaborate in small groups to apply life cycle analysis to an everyday object, allowing each participant to bring unique perspectives and insights to the team, fostering innovative solutions to improve the object’s sustainability. Finally, you will perform a second life cycle analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed solutions, drawing actionable conclusions to refine your understanding of eco-design.
These are the teamchers you'll work with on the challenge.
By the end of this micro-module, you will be able to analyse an object from both a design and environmental perspective.
By the end of this micro-module you will be able to conduct a life cycle analysis of an object and analyse the ecological results.
By the end of this micro-module, you will be able to propose innovative and sustainable solutions to the problems you have identified during your object analysis.
By the end of this micro-module, you will be able to work effectively in a multdisciplinary and intercultural team to tackle a range of problems and find innovative solutions.
